Master motorcycle builders from around the United States will converge on the Broken Spoke Saloon during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle rally in August 2010 to compete in what is being billed as a qualifier event for the International Master Bike Builders Association World Cup Championship to be held in Canada in 2012. Jeffe Starke, President of the IMBBA said the winner of this show will have the opportunity to represent the US at the 2012 event.
Countries competing so far are: Canada, USA, Italy, Germany, France, Ireland, Turkey, Australia, and Brazil. Each country can have up to four representatives competing and or combined in one display. The Broken Spoke will also host another qualifier in 2011. There was no announcement where the other two qualifiers will be held.
Starke said there is one regulation for the Championship build. “The builders have two years from now to begin building the best they can build. The bike must be new, never shown in public and built in secrecy. If showed in press or public venue it will be disqualified to compete.” He said.
After the bike show, IMBBA will be honoring and inducting into the IMBBA “Hall of Fame” Ron Finch, Mondo Porras, and Bob McKay. Other IMBBA Hall of Famers will be in attendance as well. Expected are: Dave Perewitz, Donnie Smith, Jim Nazi, Paul Yaffe and Doug Keim.
