Competitor Dies at Infineon

A 51-year-old motorcyclist died following a crash in the West Coast Moto Jam at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma.

Augustine Alves of Hanford (Kings County) was exiting the second turn of the opening lap in Saturday’s 500 Support race when he collided with two other motorcycles, Infineon spokesman John Cardinale said.

Alves and one of the other riders lost control of their motorcycles and slid into bales of hay along the edge of the track. The other rider, along with the third motorcyclist, suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene, Cardinale said.

Alves was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he died early today.
