Milwaukee and Harley Celebrate 100 Years of Motor Cops

Milwaukee PD and Willie G. Davidson

The Milwaukee Police Department isn’t afraid of new technology.  The department recently created a YouTube channel which it uses to broadcast surveillance video taken from crime scenes in unsolved criminal investigations.

A century ago, the Police Department embraced a new technology.  It formed a motorcycle division and began its 100 year relationship with the Harley-Davidson motorcycle company.  In recognition of this anniversary the Milwaukee Police Department motorcycle unit held its shift change roll call at the Harley-Davidson Museum on May 13 during the first of the Museum’s weekly Bike Nights for 2010. Willie G. and Bill Davidson were joined by MPD Chief Edward Flynn for the ceremony, which was attended by over 40 motorcycle officers and their Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Police motorcycles.

Here’s to another century of tradition.
