Harley-Davidson Recalls V-Rods for Minor Problem

Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) is recalling all model year 2012 and certain model year 2013 VRSCDX motorcycles manufactured from June 14, 2011, through August 1, 2012. The license plate bracket assembly’s mounting screws may loosen and the assembly may separate from the rear fender. This condition may lead to contact with the rear tire which could cause the license plate bracket to rotate, possibly damaging the rear brake line.   If the license plate bracket contact with the rear brake line remains undetected, it may affect rear brake performance, increasing the risk of a crash, which could lead to injury or death of the rider. Harley-Davidson will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and repair any affected motorcycles free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on, or about, November 5, 2012. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson at 1-414-343-4056. his is Harley-Davidson recall 0148. Who needs two hands on the handlebars?  Certainly not David Beckham, who was photographed by Hollywood paparazzi on his custom motorcycle recently in Mailbu California checking his cell phone in traffic. The 37 year old dad, who’s wife, Victoria, gave birth last year to their infant daughter Harper was reportedly checking his text messages, but that’s not clear from the photograph.  What is evident is Beckham is violating California (as well as his native Austrailian) road rules by using a hand held mobile device while operating a motorized vehicle.  But, we won’t tell if you don’t.

have you ever checked your cell phone while operating a motorcycle? Take the poll and confess…

Garbage Collector Says He Thought It Was Trash

In a report that could’ve been written by the spoof website The Onion, officials with the City of Roanoke Rapids Waste Service are at a loss to explain why workers picked up Joseph Morning’s sportbike where it was parked in front of his home.    Local television news WTVD-TV reported Morning’s girlfriend noticed the bike missing in late September.  After asking neighbors, Morning learned the garbage men had hauled his bike away.  He was quoted in the report, “I had my motorcycle cover covering it, but the wheel was still showing on the bike. And the mirrors were sticking up from the bike, also. So you could tell it was a motorcycle.”

After repeated calls, and a lot of frustration, Morning found his bike at Waste Services, where it had been crushed.  The city initially wanted Morning to file a claim with his insurance company but he refused.  It took the local television station to intervene on his behalf with the City Manager, who filed it with the city’s insurance company and now Morning is set to receive a settlement from the City’s insurance carrier.  Here’s a link to the original report.

Bodies In Painted Motion

The folks behind the International Motorcycle Show, (Advanstar) partnered with some California artsy types and came up with a creative way to use body paint to “define” a culture.   What we like best is they used Erin Bates (Speed TV reporter and on-air personality)  as the “rider.”   What we wouldn’t have given to be her painter!
