Leanne Rimes and Eddie Cibrian

Say what you want to about the paparazzi, but if were not for their tireless efforts, the rest of America would never get to see that even famous singers can be just as down to earth as the rest of us.  Photographers out on the left coast caught sight of singer LeAnn Rimes and actor husband Eddie Cibrian as they cruised with a group of friends to grab a cold beer and enjoy a warm California Sunday afternoon.   More pics

BMW Recalls Small Number of GS R1200 for Suspension Problem

BMWBMW is recalling less than 2 dozen 2013 R1200 GS motorcycles manufactured January 9, 2013, through February 8, 2013.  The manufacturer says because of an insufficient torque of a locking bolt, the front fork tube may loosen.  If the fork loosens it may hinder the rider’s ability to control the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.  BMW will notify owners and dealers will reinforce the affected fork locking bolt connections, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in April 2013. Owners may call BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov. NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V154000

It’s Dry Heat: Scenic Rides in AZ for this Summer

IMG_6804A motorcycle trip through Arizona, even in the heat of the summer, can be a wondrous experience. With some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, many riders consider it a must-see destination. And for some people, whether due to vacation limitations or because of a larger trip, summer is the only option. Fortunately, it’s a dry heat, and the breathtaking views may be enough to make you forget the temperature.

Arizona has no shortage of thrilling rides and destinations. Here are three you shouldn’t miss:

The Grand Canyon

According to the National Park Service, more than a million people visit the Grand Canyon National Park each year. Once you visit, you’ll understand why. Viewing the Grand Canyon is an experience that’s almost indescribable, and something that’s impossible to capture in a picture — it’s unforgettable.

For riders, the Grand Canyon offers several options for scenic rides. The majority of visitors only see the South Rim, which measures 7,000 feet above sea level and is easily accessible from the park entrance. For the adventurous, the North Rim, at 8,000 feet above sea level, can be accessed after a 220 mile ride from the South Rim.

Sedona

Sedona is one of Arizona’s main destinations for tourism, and for good reason. It offers not only the stunning scenery of the Sedona-Verde Valley, with multiple state parks, but all of the various attractions you would expect from a tourist destination.

Spas, resorts, championship golf courses, horseback riding and hiking — all are available on your stop over in Sedona. When you aren’t busy riding, you can indulge yourself in Sedona’s world-class recreational offerings.

Long-distance rides, while exciting, can also be tiring. A good rest on your trip can make the rest of your ride more enjoyable, and Sedona is just the place to do it.

Meteor Crater

Meteor Crater offers visitors the world’s most well-preserved meteorite impact site. It may not seem nearly as imposing if you have already viewed the much larger Grand Canyon, but when you consider the impact it took to create such a large crater, it’s quite impressive.

Meteor Crater is only 43 miles east of Flagstaff, making it easy to get to and a worthwhile excursion for those who want to see just what a meteor impact looks like.

Considerations for Your Trip

Plenty of riders make these trips through Arizona yearly, so you should be meticulous when dealing with the heat if you take proper precautions. Of course, if you’re worried about the heat, you always have the option of hauling your bikes with an SUV, such as the VW Touareg.

Using a Volkswagen in Arizona may seem too easy if you consider yourself a hard-core rider, but for long-distance trips, there are plenty of advantages to be found in using an SUV to haul your motorcycles. You can park it at whatever main destination you prefer, such as Sedona or Grand Canyon Village. For the next long-distance haul, you can enjoy air conditioning and protection found in a high-quality SUV.

Don’t Let the Heat Stop You

Arizona has so much to offer to motorcyclists, even in the summer. The scenery of the desert is always remarkable, and some places are only accessible in the warmer months. Don’t hesitate to plan a trip to any of these destinations. Whether you ride the whole way, or use a Volkswagen in Arizona for part of the way, you will not regret your decision to see some of the world’s most remarkable attractions.

Burglars Break In Dealership On The Day Founder Is Buried

thief breaks into the dealership the day the founder is buried.

thief breaks into the dealership the day the founder is buried.

Thieves took advantage of a death to burglarize Mathews Harley-Davidson in Fresno California.  On Thursday march 28th, someone heaved a large stone through the plate glass door and in less than 4 minutes stole $6,000 worth of leather jackets.  The theft occurred the same day employees and customers were burying 90 year old Eva Mathews.  Eva and her late husband Harold worked in the dealership since 1953 and moved from Merced to Fresno in 1961.

“The video of our security shows he didn’t look around when he came in, like, ‘which way do I go,’ “ Cara Mathews told KFSN. “He was there on a mission. Walked right past the motorcycles and straight to the jackets so I feel that he had been in here before and kinda scoped it out.”

Police say the video shows the thief spreading a sheet on the floor and filling it with leather jackets, hooking it up and fleeing the store.   Jackets fell out all along the way up to and beside the freeway where the trail ended and police assume he got into a car and fled the scene.  (Edited 4/5/13 to correct misspellings)

Ghost Mountain MC Denied Permit Despite 22 Years of Successful Event

GMRMCThe Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors has denied a request from the Ghost Mountain Riders MC for a permit to sell alcohol at the First Daze-O-Summer Run this weekend.  The event has been held for the past 22 years without incident.

The local Sheriff published a press release in March claiming a member of the Mongols, Mongol Eric “Li’l Pee-Ka” Garcia was last seen in a San Jose bar named the Park Lane Lounge at two in the morning “in the company of persons associated with the Ghost Mountain Riders Motorcycle Club.”  “Ii’l Pee-Ka was later found murdered.  The release did not say how those persons were associated with the club, or if they were suspect in the murder.

The event benefits a campground for disabled kids called Camp Krem, and on average 200-300 motorcyclists participate.  The County Supervisors wanted $2,100 for the permit and the Sheriff’s department required the club to hire off-duty deputies as security (because of the alcohol) at $525 per deputy.

At the Supervisors’ meeting, Chief Deputy Jim Hart said, “we would approve the permit if there was hired security to be on scene, and they have told us they aren’t willing to pay for security to be at Camp Krem when the party takes place.” Hart also told the Supervisors that the event was likely to snarl traffic with a pack of motorcycles “25 miles long.”

According to a club spokesman, the club earns less from the bar than the permit would have cost so the club has scrapped the plans for the bar.  “We’ll just have to make up the donation to the camp in($2,100) in some other way.

Not having a permit means the attendees won’t be able to ride as a group to the camp, as in previous years.
