HARLEY-DAVIDSON REDEFINES MOTORCYCLING WITH PROJECT RUSHMORE

MILWAUKEE (Aug. 19, 2013) –Yesterday, Harley-Davidson unveiled its new lineup of 2014 motorcycle models during the company’s Annual Dealer Meeting in Denver, Colo. The star of the show is not a single bike – rather eight new bikes under the banner Project RUSHMORE, the outcome of a new customer-driven product development effort, which Harley-Davidson implemented to re-engineer the world’s best-selling line of touring motorcycles. The road trip will never be the same.

In the largest scale new model launch in the company’s 110-year history, Project RUSHMORE encompasses eight new motorcycles that feature improved power and braking performance, enhanced rider ergonomics, and dramatic styling updates that completely redefine and fundamentally transform the touring motorcyclist’s experience.

Through the implementation of Project RUSHMORE, Harley-Davidson maintains its leadership in the luxury touring and performance bagger segments with motorcycles that are smart, comfortable, responsive and simply stunning.

A Journey, Led by Riders

“Project RUSHMORE has been touched by thousands of people, most of them being our customers and our employees,” said Scott Habegger, Harley-Davidson Director of Motorcycle Planning. “The voice of the customer is represented not just up front, but throughout the process. In our product development process, we gather input and ideas at formal focus groups, but also at all the events we attend, at our demo rides, sometimes just talking to that rider or passenger sitting on the next stool at a diner. In addition, Harley-Davidson dealers provide valuable input. We then take our ideas and solutions back to customers as prototypes and get more feedback before settling on a final design. With these inputs approved, we are then able to get into production very quickly. We really feel that we are in this together as riders.”

Harley-Davidson listens and responds like never before, and Project RUSHMORE produces thoughtful innovations and technology enhancements that build on the technological foundation that established the company’s dominant leadership in the touring motorcycle segment and collectively transform the Harley-Davidson Touring and Trike motorcycle platforms. Those enhancements slot into four customer-defined categories:

Control:  Project RUSHMORE bikes pass faster, stop quicker and see farther at night, thus inspiring rider confidence.  Each model features the new Twin-Cooled™ High Output Twin Cam 103™ or the High Output Twin Cam 103™ powertrains – both with fuel injection, Reflex™ Linked Brakes with ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), and Daymaker™ LED and Dual Halogen lighting.

Infotainment: New color-screen Boom! ™ Box infotainment systems feature the first original-equipment voice recognition and touchscreen for music, GPS navigation and phone in motorcycling, with quality audio, Bluetooth® connectivity, text-to-speech technology, plus support for intercom and CB communications in a single module.

Feel: Aerodynamics and ergonomics come together to improve comfort – from the new Batwing fairing with splitstream venting, which reduces head buffeting by 20 percent, to best-in-class ride for passengers with wider and deeper seats and new back and arm rests.

Style: The form and the function of many components are improved – a larger Tour-Pak® and saddlebags with convenient One-Touch latches, sleeker fenders, lighter cast aluminum wheels and intuitive hand control switches.

Project RUSHMORE recalibrates the expectations of touring for motorcyclists. The above elements of Project RUSHMORE are applied to the following 2014 Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycle models:

The Daytona Beach Area CVB Wants You to Show off Your Biker Pets

motorcycle petA Facebook Photo Contest Offers a Chance to Win a Stay in Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach, Fla. (August 8, 2013) –   People aren’t the only ones who enjoy long motorcycle rides – as it turns out, fluffy companions are also digging the action.  Pets riding along with their owners on motorcycles are becoming a more common sighting during bike events.  In preparation for the 21st Annual Biketoberfest®, the Daytona Beach Area CVB is asking pet-friendly motorcycle enthusiasts to show off their biker pets for a chance to win one of three getaways to Daytona Beach.

The promotion, called Tails & Tailpipes, is a photo contest geared towards bikers and their faithful two and four-legged companions.  Pets can be positioned on a bike, around a bike, wearing biker gear or in another creative way that shows they are truly worthy of being called “bikers.”  Entries will be accepted through the Official Biketoberfest® Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/Biketoberfest) from Aug. 1 – Sept. 15, 2013.

There will be first, second and third place prizes for the best biker pet photo submissions with the grand prize of a four-day, three-night stay at the Shores Resort & Spa; admission for two to the Museum of Arts & Sciences; admission for two to the Marine Science Center; admission for two to the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse, a gift card for one Banana Boat ride with Ponce Inlet Watersports and a $25 gift card for the Ocean Deck Restaurant and Beach Club.

In order to make it fun for all involved, the CVB added a twist to this photo competition allowing voters to also have a chance to win.  Two lucky voters will be chosen at random to win one of two available prize packages.  Voting will be open on the Official Biketoberfest® Facebook Page onSept. 16 – Oct. 10, 2013 with a winner being drawn on Oct. 11, 2013.

“This promotion captures the awareness that events like Biketoberfest® cross a variety of demographics and are not limited to the stereotypes of years past. Statistics show that more than 3 in 5 Americans own at least one pet, and we’ve seen some bike enthusiasts first hand at area bike events with their pet in tow,” stated Jeffrey Hentz, President/CEO of the Daytona Beach Area CVB. “Bringing the softer side of motorcycle owners into perspective helps put a different angle on the biker persona.”

The contest ends just before the beginning of the 21st Annual Biketoberfest® sponsored by Amsoil® and GEICO.  This internationally known event happens every October and is set forOctober 17 – 20, 2013.  Biketoberfest® attracts motorcycle enthusiasts from across the United States and Canada for an extended weekend of live music, motorcycle rallies, scenic rides, poker runs and more.

According to reports, Lane was given credit of 2 days per month against his jail time for good behavior.

In 2011, BikerNet conducted an interview with Lane conducted while he was incarcerated, in which Lane said he would be eligible for work release in the spring of this year.  When asked about his plans for when he’s released, Lane said, “Ultimately, my goal is to have small shops in both Florida and California. Loud Pipes! Take our Poll on the New Indians

In 2011, Polaris bought the Indian brand.  Then they moved the plant from North Carolina to Spirit Lake Iowa and began gearing up for production.  This past March, in Bike Week they released the engine and now in Sturgis they’ve unveiled these bikes.  What do you think?  Winner or dud?

We’ve embedded two separate polls.  One for Harley-Davidson owners and one for everyone else.  We”re curious to see the difference in opinions from those who own the Bar and Shield versus everyone else.

TOBY KEITH TAKES OWNERSHIP STAKE IN BRASS BALLS

100Partners With Champion Bike Builder Dar Holdsworth’s Bike Company

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) Singer, songwriter, entertainer and entrepreneur Toby Keith has taken his love of motorcycles to a new level as he partners with Brass Balls Cycles’ Dar Holdsworth as co-owner of the award-winning, Oklahoma City-based custom/production bike builder.

The partnership will be publicly announced August 6 as Keith returns to headline the legendary Sturgis Buffalo Chip Motorcycle Rally. Also at The Chip, Holdsworth and the Brass Balls team will be featured in a Bike Build-Off being filmed for CMT. The finished motorcycle will be given to a Vietnam vet at the conclusion of the event.

“This partnership will help Brass Balls Cycles increase its U.S. market presence, as well as expand the brand internationally,” Holdsworth says. “We will be revealing new and revised models in the near future and, as always, proudly power our bikes with American made S&S V-Twin motors.”

A longtime motorcycling enthusiast (as depicted in his “American Ride” video), Keith met Holdsworth through the Pros 4 Vets organization. Earlier this year, Brass Balls Cycles built a custom bike that was raffled to support the Toby Keith Foundation’s OK Kids Korral project.

About Toby Keith: Featured on the cover of the current issue of Forbes and named the highest-paid country performer of 2013, Keith is known for many successful ventures including his I Love This Bar And Grill restaurant chain, Wild Shot Mezcal and more. But his business acumen is secondary to his success as a music creator and performer. His latest single “Drinks After Work” is rocketing up the charts, and leads an upcoming album of new music. And his Hammer Down Tour, Presented By Ford F-Series will continue to pack venues nationwide into the fall.

About Dar Holdsworth: An Air Force veteran of Desert Storm, Holdsworth is a two-time AMD World Champion custom/production motorcycle builder who founded Brass Balls Cycles in 2006. The company specializes in timeless and uncompromising American motorcycles, offering a line of Bobbers, Choppers and Sport Cruisers.
