So, Hyosung parent company from Korea wants beginner riders, so they have joined with an American based small bike manufacturer and will put bikes in HD showrooms. This is supposed to attract beginners to HD. They will sell Korean Hyosung branded as ATK bikes, assembled in Utah, and then expect trade ups to HD. This sounds like an arms length deal with HD to sell beginner bikes and still have foot traffic in stores. HD has tried Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, and Buell; they seem to think "have someone build smaller bikes and we will give you floor space". Trade ups usually stay with the same brand, right? Motorcycle companies struggle with variety versus volume. Cannot built 10 models and sell enough to justify capital expenditures. So, this alterative may be akin to dealers having four or so makers on the floor. I would like to see Husqvarna, KTM, and Victory together for off-road, dual sport, and then street to cover all ages and tastes in motorcylcing.
