How we class bikes-
1. Metric
Stock and American Stock-
This class is for manufactured stock cruisers and sportbikes that are not
heavily modified and have stock or manufacturer option paint schemes.
Pinstriping is ok in this class.
2.
Metric Stock Custom & American Stock Custom –Bikes
that have custom paint schemes and / or modifications to the frame or swing
arm, not including chrome work. Changing the swing arm to accommodate a
wider back tire or stretching and raking the frame or having a custom paint
job puts your bike in this class
3.
Full Custom / Radical
These are bikes built from the ground up by non-manufacturing companies.
You can own a custom bike shop, but if you are able to churn out more than
24 bikes a year then your bike will be in Manufactured Custom.
4.
Manufactured Custom –
These are the American Iron horse and Big Dog, Big Bear Choppers, and other
bikes of this type
5.
Trikes –
3 wheel or anything enclosed or encased.
6.
Antique Bikes –
25 years old or older
7.
Rat Bike
- Self explanatory although rat bikes can be entered in antique bike
category
8.
Editor’s Choice
The Editor and Staff of USRiderNews will pick their personal
favorite from all bikes entered
9.
People’s Choice -
Participants and spectators will make monetary donations (to benefit the
Shriners) of the bike they like the best. Each dollar represents one vote.
The bike with the most money wins the class, but the real winner are the
charities the Shriners support!
10.
Best of Show-
This will be the bike with the highest point total in their class.
How
We Judge Bikes
Each
bike is judged on 5 broad categories on a scale of 1-10
Paint,
Overall Appearance, Wires/fasteners, Chrome and Finish Quality.
There are 5
judges and each judge has one category to judge on each bike.
Let’s assume a
bike is entered in the stock class. Of course the paint job will have to be
stock so unless it’s dinged or faded or scratched, it will get a 5. Middle
of the road. Pinstriping may give it a higher score, or a lower score
depending on how it was applied and how it looks on the bike. Same goes
with the wire and fastener judge. If the bike has chrome cables and
upgraded fasteners then the score will be higher than just stock wiring
fasteners.
In every bike
show there are builders who do not win, and are upset because (in their
mind) the winning bike was a piece of junk! With this method, we can
explain how the judges arrived at their conclusions and often show the
participant where his bike needs improving. We try hard to take the
prejudices and judge’s preferences out of the judging process.
