Big Bear Choppers Finished

Whether it’s a weak economy, bad management or uncooperative lenders is yet to be determined. The only thing for certain now is that the California custom manufacturer Big Bear Choppers, is filing bankruptcy and customers who have paid deposits or paid in full for bikes are demanding answers, according to a report in the Big Bear Grizzly.

From $18 Million a year in revenue to bankruptcy, Big Bear Choppers ends its ride

Disgruntled customers are lining up to demand the owners of BBC come clean. Pavel Meshcheryakov from Russia ordered two bike kits in June 2011, making full payment for $56,000. In November, Michael Forbes, marketing stopped responding to Meshcheryakov’s emails and letters.

A note on the front door at Big Bear Choppers says the company will re-open Nov. 28th after Thanksgiving, but that did not happen.

The owners, Mona and Kevin Alsop have said they will file for bankruptcy.

The Alsops have also declined to make any further statements to the press, saying their lawyer has advised them to remain silent.

Recently BBC appeared on the television show Bloomberg The Mentor saying it needed a half million dollar investment to keep it afloat.

BBC will default on a $147,000 loan (3.5% interest) from Big Bear Lake’s Improvement Agency and the First Mountain Bank’s loan of $147,000.

The company began it’s death spiral in 2009 when a bad weld on a frame caused a front fender assembly to fail, resulting in injury to an owner whose leg was amputated, and later sued the company.

At it’s zenith, Big Bear Choppers raked in $18 million dollars a year in revenue from manufacture of custom choppers, parts and accessories.

The actual number of customers who have paid for or made deposits on bikes has not been revealed at this time.

Buffalo Chip Campground, SD (July 1, 2011)- The Sturgis Buffalo Chip® is proud to announce the partnership they have embarked upon with the Limpnickie Lot to showcase the next generation of motorcycle builders.

This year the Limpnickie Lot will be featured at The Buffalo Chip®, near the West Gate (where the large Buffalo Sculpture is located) in the free area. They will be creating their own FREE Limpnickie village complete with over 20 Limpnickie Lot motorcycle builders and a skateboard ramp.

The Limpnickie Lot brings with it two great Cycle Source Magazine events to Chip, The Cycle Source Free Night Time Chopper Show will take place on Friday August 12th, which is free to enter and features prizes from Legends Air and 10 classes to enter. The fifth annual Cycle Source Black Hills Run will start and end at The Sturgis Buffalo Chip® this year with a host of great destinations throughout the Black Hills. Rod Woodruff said “We have watched what Chris and Taber have created over the last few years and feel like the Buffalo Chip is the perfect place for them to realize their fullest potential in Sturgis. We see this as a long-term partnership that will round out the world class attractions that the Buffalo Chip already offers.”
“This new free area of the facility will be a combination of the laid back Limpnickie attitude and the world-class destination of the Chip.” Said co-owner of the Limpnickie Lot Chris Callen.
The Limpnickie Lot took the motorcycle industry by storm in March of 2008 during Daytona Bike Week when the original 11 Limpnickie Lot members took over the parking lot in front of the Stone Edge Skatepark. It was the first time young builders and small parts manufactures had joined together in an effort that would combine their passion for custom motorcycles and their cultural identifiers like skateboarding, punk rock and metal music.

They had a successful week that changed the face of motorcycling and finally gave the rising next generation of motorcycle builders a united voice. “We wanted to have our own kind of rally and found other like minded next generation builders who shared our common interests. It has blown up over the last few years and we are really stoked to be at The Buffalo Chip this year.” Said co-owner of the Limpnickie Lot, Taber Nash.
The Limpnickie Lot addition is the crown on an already packed 30 Years Strong Celebration at the Legendary Buffalo Chip. Reservations for multi-day passes or daily admissions are available online at or by calling 605-347-9000 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. (MST) Mondaythrough Friday.

Best of the Beach at Thunder Beach Raises $1000 For Shriners

Saturday May 1st dawned overcast and windy in Panama City Beach as Mother Nature revved up her engine in the gulf kicking the surf and blowing through with a thunderstorm the day before.  Custom bike builders are a skittish lot and many waited until the very last moment to see how the day was going to play out before entering their bike in the Best of the Beach bike show.

By 10:3o the forecast for overcast/ partly cloudy skies was 50% true as the overcast remained, and partly cloudy was still a distant goal.  By now the streets in PCB were clogging up with traffic and Back Beach Rd was inching along at 5 mph.  A slight wreck threw another wrench in the gears and what was a slow go, turned into a ground stop and with so many pre-registered show entries still not checked in, the decision was made to extend the registration time for 45 minutes.

At 1 o’clock, all but 2 pre-paid entries had arrived in Pier Park and the show began.

Ron Galletti and his wife Debbie, creators of Born To Ride TV were on hand as well as Jay Barbieri of the Discovery Channel Two Wheel Thunder.  Both shows were taping segments for upcoming episodes.

Even after entry cut-off was announced, several late entries arrived and unfortunately had to be turned away.

The International Master Bike Builders Association (IMBBA) provided the judges and head judge, Freddie Arnold said, “The competition in every class is top notch.  This has definitely become THE show to compete in during Thunder Beach.”

Steel Horse Law sponsored the Best of Show with $1,000 cash prize with Kuryakyn, Wimmer Machine, RC Components, Custom Dynamics, HHI, Renegade Wheels, Jireh, R & R Trikes, Two Brothers Tires and Stripper Juice sponsoring other classes or providing free products to every entrant.

Fuller Hot Rods Tackles Parts Manufacturing

ATLANTA, GA (April 26, 2010) – Parts manufacturing is one more item that Bryan Fuller, owner of Fuller Hot Rods in Atlanta, can add to his list of industry contributions. The automotive and motorcycle specialist has created and recently unveiled a number of  motorcycle parts including the Honda Points Cover, Buell XB Carb Conversion, Triple Clamp Set, and Velocity Stack. After putting months of design time and machining into crafting these specialty parts Fuller has listed these parts for purchase on the Fuller Hot Rod website at

Honda Points Cover- When building a CB550 project, the crew at Fuller Hot Rods ran into a problem. What to do with the ugly stock chrome points cover? The solution? Get a new one cast on site in Atlanta. Their cast aluminum points cover is perfect for that custom touch and allows for engraving or machining. It is offered in rough cast or semi finished and will fit CB500/4, 550/4 and 750/4 with points on the right side of the crankshaft. The Honda Points Cover sells for $120.00.

Buell XB Carb Conversion- This Stainless Steel Intake will mount a carb on to a 2002-present XB-9 or XB-12. Normally these bikes are Fuel Injected but Fuller likes to switch his to carb to reduce the number of wires and remove the computer. Water Jet flanges out of 3/8″ 308 Stainless is fixture welded, and bolts directly to the engine so no other mounts are necessary. S&S Super G carbs or PSI Power carbs will bolt directly to this unit. Mikuni can be mated with their adapters. The Buell XB Carb Conversion sells for $399.00.

Triple Clamp Set- These beautiful triple clamps are CNC machined from 6061 Aluminum to Fuller Hot Rods’ specifications. They are designed to fit Fullers’ Buell based “Fueller” choppers with stock XB Showa inverted forks but could also be used for custom Harley Davidson applications. Stem hole size is 1″, lower clamp fork ID is 56mm and the upper is 54mm. Fork offset is 5mm less than stock Buell XB9/12. Fuller’s Triple Clamp Set sells for $799.00.

Velocity Stack- Beautifully machined carburetor intake velocity stack in 6061 Aluminum. 2″ ID, 3″ long, 3.4″ OD at wide end. 5/32″ thick material allows room for modification for custom applications if needed. The Velocity Stack sells for $50.00.

Shop online at to purchase any of Fuller’s specialty parts or visit their website to learn more about Fuller Hot Rods and keep an eye on the progress of any of Fuller’s projects.
