Fairless and Allstate Display Custom Built Victory

fairlessAll day today March 7, Allstate Insurance Company and legendary motorcycle builder Rick Fairless will display at Daytona Bike Week his latest custom creation – a reimagined Victory Vegas 8-Ball.

The custom-built motorcycle is part of this year’s grand prize for the Allstate Motorcycle Sweepstakes and will feature signature Rick Fairless designs and customization never before seen by the public. This is the fifth year of the Allstate Motorcycle Sweepstakes and the first year that a Fairless custom is featured as the grand prize.

“When Allstate asked me to build this year’s bike, they asked for one that really fit the image of its riders. I knew I had to push the limits a little with this bike because they insure so many different kinds of folks,” Fairless said. “We ended up with a bike that is really going to turn some heads. This ain’t a bolt-on custom.”

In addition to winning the motorcycle, Allstate will give the winner a trip for two to Rick Fairless’ Strokers Dallas for a free custom paint job consultation, personalized by Fairless himself.

“We’re confident that the winner of this year’s Allstate Motorcycle Sweepstakes is not only going to love their new ride,” said Pam Hollander, senior director of marketing for Allstate Insurance Company, “but they’re also going to love the whole Allstate experience.”

Harley and BMW Owners Say Their Brands Are Less Reliable, but More Satisfying

moto mechanicConsumer Reports magazine has conducted their first ever motorcycle reliability survey and they say that a quarter of all Harley-Davidson owners reported experiencing a major problem with their motorcycle in the previous four years.  BMW owners reported their motorcycles are even less reliable, with 33% of owners reporting problems in the previous four years.  Japanese import owners reported fewer problems,.(10% or less)

The full report will be released tomorrow, March 28th.  In the advance release of the report, no mention was made of responses from Triumph, Ducati,  Victory or Indian owners.

Interestingly despite the higher percentage of owners reporting problems with their motorcycles,  BMW and HD owners reported being the most satisfied with their motorcycles.  An overwhelming number of Harley-Davidson owners, 75% told interviewers they would buy their bike again.   BMW and Honda owners also reaffirmed their purchase at 74 and 72 percent respectively.

“Reliability is one of many factors consumers might consider when purchasing a motorcycle. However, other factors like sculpted lines and rumbling engines also strike the right note among motorcyclists,” said Rik Paul, Auto Editor, Consumer Reports.

Among the bikes that needed repairs, survey respondents reporting having the most trouble with accessories, such as lights, instruments, switches, and radios (21%), brakes (20%), the electrical system (16%), and the fuel system (15%). Fortunately, most repairs were fairly inexpensive. Three quarters cost less than $200 out-of-pocket.

Victory Releases Boardwalk; Ends The Kingpin

The widest handlebars of any Victory cruiser and a new two piece seat distinguish the Boardwalk from the other bikes in the Victory lineup.  Seat height is a low 25.9 inches, slightly over 1/2 of an inch lower than the Kingpin and lower than the Vision and the Crossroads and Cross Country.    Fuel capacity has increased slightly to 4.7 gallons, the same as the Judge.  Front fender features a chrome accent at the strut and the long sweeping lines compliment the wide whitewall tires enhancing the “laid back”  lazy Sunday afternoon persona of the bike.  The 150mm rear and 130mm front Metzler’s are mounted on 16″ 60 spoke laced chrome  wheels.

The headlight, gauge housing, handlebars, exhaust, belt guard, engine and ignition covers, turn signal housing and fender struts are all chrome and the rear brake and turn signals are LED lamps.

If you need / want to do some light touring, Victory has the Boardwalk saddlebags (not shown) a tall windshield and passenger backrest with optional 2-Up luggage rack attachment.  Cruise control is also an option on the Boardwalk.

There wasn’t any “official” pronouncement that Victory is abandoing the Kinpin model, but without a new 2013 model the line is dead.  For 2013, Victory goes with 3 “baggers” and two full touring models not counting the Ness models.
