Henry Wiles is 2011 AMA Racing Dirt Track Grand Championships Honoree

PICKERINGTON, Ohio – On July 25-31 in Du Quoin, Ill., the AMA Racing Dirt Track Grand Championships will crown the best amateur racers in short-track, TT, half-mile and mile amateur dirt-track competition. Attending as this year’s event honoree will be AMA Pro Racing Grand National Championship racer Henry Wiles.

“I’m really excited to be serving as the event honoree this year,” Wiles said. “As an amateur who raced the Grand Championships, it was an exciting time to do some traveling and race against guys I never competed against before. You find out a lot more about yourself, and it’s cool to gain the experience that comes with that.”

AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley said that Wiles is a good role model for the young racers vying for AMA Racing National Championships.

“It’s great that established pros can come back to the AMA Racing Dirt Track Grand Championships and advise tomorrow’s stars on the best path to success,” Bromley said. “Plus, it’s a good opportunity for the kids to see on one level that their heroes are just like them — diehard enthusiasts who are addicted to the rush that comes from racing on two wheels.”

Rosanna Grzebinski, who along with her husband Patrick Grzebinski owns North America Action Sports, the group that is partnering with the AMA to promote and operate the 2011 AMA Racing Dirt Track Grand Championships, said Wiles will provide an invaluable service to the amateur racers at the event.

“We are thrilled that Henry will join us at the AMA Racing Dirt Track Grand Championships this summer,” Grzebinski said. “In addition to being available throughout the week, he’ll be our featured guest atWednesday evening’s Chillin’ with Henry Wiles, where we’ll all sit around, enjoy some ice cream and ask Henry just what it takes to be a top pro in AMA Pro Grand National Championship competition.”

Wiles joins riders such as Chris Carr, Kenny Coolbeth, Bryan Smith and JR Schnabel who have served as event honorees. He said that he’s looking forward to offering advice to the young racers.

“Current pro racers need to help lead the new crop of riders in the right direction, so they’re not scratching their heads the same way I was,” Wiles said. “I didn’t know enough to ask questions until much later, and it was already ‘go’ time. So to be able to offer some advice and be available to answer questions for the parents and riders means a lot to me, and I hope it means a lot to the racers, as well.”

Wiles added that the Du Quoin facility provides an excellent location for the event.

“The riders will have fun on all these tracks — the short-track, TT, half-mile and mile,” Wiles said. “Of course, it’s always exciting the first time you get out on the mile, so that will be really fun. My best advice for those new to the mile is not to get in over your head. Always remember that you can make a lot up on the next lap if you don’t do a perfect lap. You don’t have to pass everybody in the first corner.”

The AMA Racing Dirt Track Grand Championships crown Grand National champions based on their accumulated points in all four dirt-track disciplines. The top riders compete for the AMA Dirt Track Horizon Award, which honors the amateur racer poised for success on the pro level. Racers field traditional dirt-trackers and the latest DTX-machinery. DTX bikes begin as showroom-fresh motocross bikes that are then fitted with dirt-track tires, suspension and other modifications.

Bikers Prepare to Gather to Set a World Record

Conyers, GA , July 9th, 2011–  Bikers and motorsports enthusiasts are always trying to set world records but they are usually speed related.  Not this weekend!  Mountain Motorsports in Conyers GA is hosting a record-setting event to establish the record for the world’s largest safety presentation!

Steven Zarbatany, President of Motorcycle Training Institute, Inc. (MTII.com), one of the event’s sponsors says “As a safety-oriented organization, we’re excited to be involved in this event!  As bikers,  safety  — as well as fun – is always on our minds, and we’re pleased to see so many people willing to participate.”

Alicia “AJ” Jones, of #1 Stunnas Motorsports Group,  the organizer of the event says she got the idea by wanting to set SOME type of non-speed record but the Guinness Book of World Records was crowded with records.  After speaking with the people at Guinness Book she contacted Dr. Mike Cosgrove of MTII and together they planned this event.  Says AJ “All motorcycles are welcome, as are 3-wheelers, 4-wheelers, cars and trucks.  This event is really open to just about any land-based vehicle with an engine.  We are hoping to gather in excess of 500 bikes and other vehicles.”

Zarbatany, who runs Florida’s largest motorcycle training school and who is an industry leader hopes that by bringing safety to the forefront, drivers will be more alert and aware of motorcycles when behind the wheel.  He is hoping that these types of events are duplicated in other areas.

Anaheim, CA — July 5, 2011 - Kendon Industries, Inc., the originator of Stand-UpTM motorcycle trailers and innovative motorcycle lifts, has taken the wraps off its 20th Anniversary Dual Rail Motorcycle Trailer. The latest evolution in the patented product line, this limited edition version includes a show-stopping custom black/orange two-tone color scheme and loaded with accessories and upgrades that are not available on any standard model.

“This trailer is the result of 20 years of hard work,” says Kendon President Frank Esposito. “Equal amounts of inspiration and perspiration have gone into this design… We honestly sweat the smallest details!” It is exactly this attention to detail that defines the Kendon difference. Take for example the high-intensity LED tail lights, smooth rolling high mileage radial tires, lightweight aluminum wheels and American-made DOWCO trailer covers tailored to fit. “These are all proven elements we learned from years of experience and from listening to our customers,” explains Esposito.

This two-rail motorcycle trailer can be easily folded-up and moved on its own built-in casters for convenient storage in an out-of-the-way corner of your garage when it is in its Stand-UpTM configuration. Actual dimensions of the trailer are just 27-inches deep by 93.5-inches tall by 84 inches wide.

It also has a lower platform than prior models with a longer, user-friendly ramp with side rails, a new rear section lockdown clamp and integrated wheel chocks for a better loading experience. All of Kendon’s dual rail trailers incorporate independent torsion bar axles, which makes towing one or two bikes safe, quiet and smooth.

Sprint Phone Recycling Goal Gets a Boost With Vespa USA Relationship

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, Sprint Nextel [NYSE:S] and Vespa USA announced a new customer contest to drive greater participation in Sprint’s Buybackprogram by offering customers a chance to win a new fuel-efficient Vespa LX 50 motor scooter. Between June 26 and August 20, wireless users who return their old or unused cell phones to Sprint can receive up to $250 instant credit toward the purchase of a new wireless device and will be able to enter to win one of six Vespa scooters athttp://sprint.com/govespa.

Winners of the Vespa scooters also will receive the new Samsung Replenish™, the fourth eco-friendly device from Sprint, one of its latest Android devices. All devices returned through the Buyback program either will be recycled or re-purposed to continue Sprint’s momentum toward its zero waste policy and 2017 goal to recycle nine mobile devices for every 10 sold.

With its recently announced Electronics Stewardship Policy, a key component of the company’s efforts to reduce improperly disposed e-waste, Sprint is providing customers responsible end-of-life solutions for their mobile devices. Since 2001, Sprint has collected more than 24 million phones for reuse and recycling. Currently, only 10 percent of phones in this country are recycled, leaving more than 140 million mobile phones in landfills each year.

“We are excited to join with Vespa to make this special offer available to new and existing Sprint customers,” said Matt Gunter, Sprint vice president of consumer marketing. “Our aim is to address the entire lifecycle of the mobile devices we buy and sell – it’s a win-win for our customers, for Sprint and for the environment. While we continue to educate customers on responsible ways to manage e-waste, this relationship with Vespa will draw greater attention and enthusiasm to our efforts. We hope to drive greater participation in our Buyback program and to encourage new customers to join us in this initiative.”

As part of Sprint’s loyalty program, Premier customers were able to participate in the sweepstakes in advance of the national promotion that started in April. The Premier customer sweepstakes offered 10 lucky winners a Vespa LX 50 and received a significant response, with more than 300,000 entries submitted. The Premier customer contest ended June 10.

While most participation in the Buyback program will occur in Sprint stores across the nation, customers will also have a chance to trade in their phones as part of the Sprint/Vespa “Green on the Go” Tour. The tour will start on July 2 in San Francisco and travel through Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago and Boston before ending in New York on Aug. 13. The events, with more information on location and times at www.VespaUSA.com are as follows:

– San Francisco: July 2, 3
– Los Angeles: July 9, 10
– Seattle: July 16, 17
– Chicago: July 23, 24
– Boston: July 30, 31
– New York: Aug. 6 and 13

At the events, customers can:

  • Trade in their phones to be recycled to see whether they can earn an instant credit toward the purchase of a new device or donate their phone through Project Connect.
  • Demo Sprint’s first eco-friendly Android powered device – the Samsung Replenish made partially from recycled materials and recyclable packaging.
  • Participate in a Vespa photo experience.
  • Learn more about the benefits of using a Vespa as an alternative mode of transportation – as part of Vespa’s Vespanomics program.
  • Enter for a chance to win a Vespa LX 50 scooter, Samsung Replenish and three months of Sprint wireless service at each of the six city stops.

“The decision to partner with Sprint was an easy one as we have the same goal: find ways to conserve resources for the betterment of our planet,” said Melissa R. MacCaull, vice president, Piaggio Group Americas. “Sprint’s popular phone recycling program and the use of Vespas as a viable form of alternative transportation to reduce oil and gas consumption, pollution and traffic congestion are two solutions Sprint and Vespa are putting forth and that Americans are embracing.”

Vespa USA, through its Vespanomics program, promotes the use of fuel-efficient motor scooters as an alternative form of transportation that can greatly reduce gasoline consumption and put more money back into the pockets of Americans. Vespa estimates that in the year 2020, if a fraction of licensed U.S. drivers converted a small percentage of their miles to a Vespa, gasoline consumption would be reduced by 3.9 billion gallons per year, resulting in a savings to Americans of more than $21 billion.

Winners of the contest will be announced following Aug. 20 no later than October 1. For more information on the tour dates and the contest, please visit www.VespaUSA.com. Kendon’s Ride-Up Single SRL Motorcycle Trailer Offers The Best Of Both Worlds!

June 20, 2011 - Anaheim, CA - Kendon Industries, Inc., the originator of Stand-Up™ motorcycle trailers and innovative motorcycle lifts, expands its trailer offerings with a new ride-up single rail trailer. Billed as an easy loading solution for everything from lightweight sport bikes to heavyweight touring bikes, the new “Ride-Up Single SRL” trailer combines versatility and convenience with durability and practicality.

The new Ride-Up Single trailer incorporates Kendon’s new SRL technology. Exactly what is SRL? The acronym is short for “Suspension Reactive Loading,” or more simply put, it eliminates the apex created by a traditional ramp angle and the bed of the trailer when loading and unloading. The independent torsion suspension on the Kendon trailer works with the loading ramp to eliminate the apex and creates a smooth parallel surface for loading and unloading. This means that there is a much lower angle when loading/unloading a bike and virtually no point to hit the frame of the bike. The suspension compresses and lowers the bed of the trailer while loading a motorcycle and raises it back up to towing height after the bike is fully loaded onto the trailer.

Features and benefits of the new Ride-Up Single Trailer with SRL technology include:
* Single Person Ride-Up Loading
* The 2-Degree lower rear section provides a lower ramp angle that allows for easier loading
* Lock down 3-piece loading ramp featuring integrated footboards
* Expanded metal ramp surface improves traction and increases loading stability
* Ramp sections are lightweight and small enough to store in the trunk of a compact car or bolted into place on the trailer itself
* Full 1,000 lb. capacity
* Made in USA
* Lightweight, can easily be stood up for vertical storage

In addition to the new Ride-Up Single Motorcycle Trailer with SRL, Kendon’s popular standard single rail trailer will remain in the product line. Kendon is even offering a retrofit kit to upgrade its older single rail motorcycle trailers to the Ride-Up Single SRL technology.

Kendon’s Ride-Up Single Motorcycle Trailer with SRL is “The Simple, Lightweight, Stand-Up™, Ride-Up Solution.” The Ride-Up Single SRL is available now from Kendon dealers nationwide for $2,599.95 and is distributed by Tucker Rocky/Bikers Choice and Custom Chrome in the USA. White Bear Lake, MN ( June 13, 2011)- Finally! After months of anticipation and speculation about what form it would take, the new 2012 Gold Wings arrived in dealerships around the country. Enthusiasts were relieved to finally get their hands on the new Honda flagship and it wasn’t long before they were looking for a trike conversion that would nicely complement their new ride. Rare, Historic Motorcycles to Roar across Auction Block at Dana Point Concours d’Elegance

DANA POINT, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–EG Auctions, a premier collector vehicle auction company, will auction some of the finest examples of vintage motorcycles from the 1900s through the early ‘50s during the 29th Annual Dana Point Concours d’Elegance, on June 24-26. Located at the esteemed St. Regis Monarch Beach in Dana Point, Calif., the Dana Point Vintage Automobile Auction will offer more than 100 collectible, classic vehicles including European sports cars, exotics, hot rods, muscle cars and motorcycles during Southern California’s three-day celebration of automotive elegance.

“The Dana Point Concours d’Elegance is renowned for presenting some of the most breathtaking classic cars and vintage motorcycles in the world,” said David Berg, managing partner of EG Auctions. “To complement the wonderful examples of antique motorcycles slated for display on the Concours North Lawn, we’re going to offer people the opportunity to purchase one also. From a restored, classic Harley Davidson to an early 20th century Indian Twin two-speed, EG Auctions has an eclectic assortment of motorcycles for sale that would be wonderful centerpieces for any collection.”

Of the most interesting motorcycles crossing the auction block is a 1914 Indian Twin two-speed model #88F778 assembled by the Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company. Built during the decade when Indian became the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world, this is a fine example of a “survivor” bike. With original paint and rims, the fiery red cycle has been stored indoors for years. Even the engine is complete and operates correctly.

No vintage motorcycle auction would be complete without a legendary Harley Davidson bike or two. A beautiful barn find available to the highest bidder is a 1934 Harley Davidson VD with a side car. Found in an industrial building down the road in Orange County, the three-speed bike was registered at the building for more than 35 years and has approximately 44,000 miles on the odometer. The rustic feel of the Harley adds to its allure, with an engine and transmission that would make any enthusiast believe it just rolled off the production line.

“For many collectors, these pre-war Harley Davidsons are the king of the road with their bad boy looks, rumbling exhaust note and smooth handling,” added Berg. “These bikes aren’t just rubber and engine grease; they symbolize a way of life.”

Harley Davidson fans will also be pleased to find some of the first Harleys on the auction docket, including 1905 and 1908 built bikes. The ‘05 is a replica of one of the three Harley Davidson motorcycles made in the first year of production. Today, only two of these bikes can be accounted for in the world. The 1908 Harley is a fine example of an early strap tank, belt drive machine.

For those interested in adding a vintage motorcycle or a collectible car to their collection, the auction preview starts Friday, June 24, at 4 p.m. PDT with the auction scheduled for 7 p.m. Bidders can review the docket, which will be on display starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, and Sunday, June 26, with sales to begin at 10 a.m. on both days inside the auction tent.

Visit www.danapointconcours.org to learn how to get tickets for the premier Southern California celebration of automotive elegance.
