Broken Spoke Saloon Celebrates Grand Re-Opening

(Laconia, NH  — May 3, 2011)  The Broken Spoke Saloon, the world’s biggest biker bar, is back! The Laconia location will be celebrating in style all Cinco de Mayo weekend as they get back in the swing of things with live music, fantastic food and amazing drink specials.

The party starts on Thursday May 5th – Cinco de Mayo and lasts all season long.  104.9 The Hawk is broadcasting live from Spoke on Thursday night from 6-8pm and to help kick things off, they’re giving away a pair of tickets to see Mötley Crüe at the Comcast Center.  Everyone will win with the Spoke’s specialty margaritas and all-new menu items like buffalo fries & custom quesadillas – plus giveaways from Corona!

The music begins on Friday, May 6th and continues through Sunday, May 8th with performances by Sum x 4, Chris Fitz Band and Pete Snow– all rockin’ the Broken Spoke Saloon stage.

The Broken Spoke has been hard at work during the off-season, improving the property to give you the very best experience – what else you would expect from the Spoke?  They’ve created an outdoor party area with picnic tables, horseshoe pits and more to come this summer (volleyball, anyone?)  The music has moved indoors – where it will be every weekend, all summer long.  And still with no cover!

Bikers Escort Boy to School To Protest Flag Ban

flag bearing motorcyclists escort teenager who was told not to fly the flag on his bicycle at school

A 13-year-old Northern California boy at the center of a flag controversy got a big show of support this morning from members of the  biker community.

Last week Cody Alicea was told by his Stanislaus County middle school that he couldn’t ride to school with a U.S. flag on his bike.

The school has since changed its mind much to the credit of the story going international, thanks to people like radio host Rush Limbaugh to soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

As he proudly displayed the flag for his ride to school Monday, he was joined by a parade of people on motorcycles. The group said the Pledge of Allegiance upon arriving at school.

“It means a lot to me,” a tearful Alicea told KCRA.

The school said the original ban of his flag was due to safety concerns. Denair Unified School District Superintendent Edward Parraz told KCRA the campus recently experienced racial tensions. He said some students got out of hand on Cinco de Mayo. He said some students displayed the Mexican flag, while others displayed American flags.

Alicea said Monday he is surprised by all the attention he is getting. “This is big,” Alicea said. “I didn’t think it’d get this big.”
