The Archbishop Poker Run

archbishop poker run(excerpted from the Miami Herald)  About 60 riders participated in the St. Richard’s Catholic Church’s Archbishop’s Poker Run led by Archbishop Thomas Wenski wearing his leathers and riding his Harley-Davidson Street Glide.  The Chrome Knights Motorcycle Association and other groups helped the archdiocese organize the poker run which stopped at a fruit stand, a cafe and Peterson’s HD in Miami Gardens.

The proceeds of the run will go to programs that help people in the community recover from various types of addiction, and Wenski is hoping to establish the poker run as annual event to support St. Luke’s.

“Many people know I’ve been riding a motorcycle for some years now, so hopefully they’ll support it even if they don’t ride a motorcycle,” Wenski said. “I pray before, during and after I ride my bike.”

AHRMA Announces a “World Championship” Mini-Series

The American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) announces a new mini-series for the conclusion of the 2011 Road Racing season

The 2011 AHRMA World Championship series, a first for AHRMA, is a mini-series that will tabulate results from all road race classes for the 7th Annual Barber Vintage Festival (October 8th and 9th) and the one round of the last event of the road race season at Daytona International Speedway, the following weekend (October 14th thru 16th).

This mini-series was created to allow international riders an easy way to compete in two AHRMA nationals at two premier facilities in one easy trip. All racers must be entered for both events to be included in the final standings.

A contingent of Manx-mounted New Zealanders and several international champions have already signed up to join the AHRMA regulars as they battle for points in the 500 Premier race.

Vintage enthusiasts will not want to miss this spectacular lineup. Visit the AHRMA website for event information, announcements, event schedules and/or directions visit: www.ahrma.org and/or www.barbervintagefestival.com.

Vintage Motocross Returns to the Hills of Infineon Raceway

SONOMA, Calif. (May 6, 2011) – Vintage motocross returns to the hills of Infineon Raceway at the West Coast Moto Jam, May 13-15.

The 6th annual Brad Lackey’s Nor-Cal Classic AHRMA/Legends of Motocross National will feature more than 500 entrants in 40 different classes of American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) vintage motocross racing.  Legendary rider and Bay Area resident, Brad Lackey, who became the first American to win the 500cc Grand Prix Motocross World Championship in 1982, will host the event.

“We’re so excited to be back at Infineon Raceway after 10 years and then 30 years before that,” said Lackey, who resides in Pleasant Hill. “The vintage motocross people are coming out in force for this event to come see us in the Wine Country. It’s going to be a great, family-friendly weekend.”

Vintage motocross racing captures a time when the sport was still a largely European affair, recalling an era before the shift of power to the American stars and the now vastly-popular ‘supercross’ offshoot discipline of motocross racing. The motocross course, located on the hills behind Turn 7, will be created with a combination of man-made sections and natural, grass terrain. Racing will be featuredon Saturday and Sunday including a “Husky vs. CZ” race each day. Friday will feature the Donnie Hansen Motocross Academy in the morning and a trials series in the afternoon.

In addition to the on-track motocross action, there will also be a swap meet and vintage bike display. Fans are also invited to view movies and enjoy complimentary refreshments and popcorn in the motocross pits following the races on Saturday. This year’s West Coast Moto Jam includes something for every motorcycle racingfan. In addition to AHRMA vintage motocross, the weekend will feature AMA Pro Road Racing, TTXGP electric motorcycles, flat track and Supermoto USA.
